Where can I get low cost care in my community?

For people that are poor and who are unable to pay much money for health care the Health Resources & Service Administration (HRSA) can help. The HSRA website address is http://findahealthcenter.hrsa.gov/Search_HCC.aspx. Once in the website people in need of medical assistance can search for a nearby health center that will provide service and charge only what they can afford based on their income.

There are three possible options for people that need low cost medical care local health centers, community centers and HRSA health centers.

Health centers can typically provide medical services such as;

   -   Prenatal care

   -   Baby shots

   -   General primary care

Referrals for people that need specialized care, including mental health issues, substance abuse and HIV/AIDS

Community health centers are located in both urban and rural areas, how much you pay depends on your income. The centers provide services such as:

   -   Prenatal care

   -   Baby shots

   -   General primary care

   -   Referrals to specialized care, including mental health, substance abuse, and HIV/AIDS

If you go to an HRSA health center despite not having insurance.  The amount that you will be asked to pay will be based upon your income. The centers provide services such as;

   -   General check ups

   -   Treatment for the sick

   -   Prenatal care

   -   Immunizations and checkups for children

   -   Dental care and prescription drugs for the family

   -   Mental health and substance abuse care

In the United States every state offers low cost, and in many case free medical care for children under the age of 19.
