What if I am a part time employee without health coverage?

Under the rules of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) there is no requirement for an employer to offer health care benefits to part time employees. Therefore if you work less than an average of 30 hours per week the January 1, 2014 implementation of the ACA will not change your eligibility status for health care coverage.

In order for you to get health care your employer will have to offer it to you, or you will have to purchase it yourself.  If you want to purchase health care insurance you can enroll through the A health insurance Marketplace.  The Marketplace opened for enrollment on October 1st.  If you are a U. S. citizen you can enroll for insurance through the health insurance marketplace and be insured by January 1, 2014.  You can enroll at the government health insurance Marketplace.  If you use the government website you will be able to compare numerous insurance packages on an apple to apple basis.

Once you enter the website you will have to provide information such as your name, address, age, number of people in your family, household income, whether you have access to insurance elsewhere and also provide answers to health related questions such as do you smoke. If you decide to buy insurance you can apply for a federal subsidy. If you apply for the subsidy you may be asked to verify your income and provide income tax information.  The Marketplace will allow you to create an account, fill out an application, shop for a policy and enroll for coverage all on the same day.
